Hey just curious what stats are needed for an OOS student at a large research institution.

I have a 3.8 plus both science and reg, and a 31. I dont think i have much of a chance.

Your chances of getting a merit scholarship are slim. But if you and your family have limited financial resources, you may qualifiy for a needs based scholarship or grant. I attend a private med school and receive a needs based grant that covers my tuition. So my loans cover my living expenses and incidental med school expenses and I will graduate with about $100,000 in med school debt, which is not bad. Currently, I am a third year med student.

My state school accepted me and gave me a package of loans and no grants. So it actually is much less expensive for me to attend the private school that in essence does not charge me for tuition.

So the lesson here is to compare financial aid packages before you make a decision on which med school to attend. Some schools are much more generous with needs based financial aid than others. However, if your family is wealthy, then this is a moot point for you.

Merit based scholarships are quite competitive and unless you are a super star, it is unlikely that you will be awarded one.

I would guess you're MCAT would hold you back.

Are you URM? Some schools (e.g. Vandy) have URM-specific scholarships that may be attainable with those stats.
