After reading a ridiculous thread from earlier today, I am curious: which topic is the most inflammatory? Is is DO vs MD, Ivy vs. non-Ivy significance, URM advantage or something else?

Note: I do not intend to ask the questions that the topics themselves address, just find out which one tends to invoke the most wrath.

What sort of comments bring down the combined wrath of the SDN community? Or is it simply posts like this one? :scared:

i think people are tired of the MD vs DO threads and usually end up rolling their eyes and posting "in before lock"

URM threads still really grind people's gears, though

personally, i hate threads (and posts within threads) asking for information that could be found via the search button or just by scrolling down the page. come on.

i think its the urm threads that get things boiling and nasty
DO v.s MD is basically a consensus by the whole sdn community as equal.

the urm thing kinda gets ppl angry when guys come here with 3.6's and 28 mcats and cant get into medical school and a urm with the same stats does..

hell there was a kid pissed like hell he didnt get into ivy med schools with his 3.9 and 39 mcat... and he states that urms he knows got in with 3.5's and 30's ... did i mention he got 4 acceptances?

The HUGE amount of "OMG my GPA sucks; make me feel better" that flooded in with the end of the semester got irksome.

URM vs. non-URM is something I have my own thoughts about but don't post about, because it's a controversial topic with no hard facts.

MD vs. DO most people realize by now is a pretty simple topic. (they're the same kthxbye)

Ivy vs. non-Ivy can get heated, but I don't think it's anywhere close to URM vs. nonURM

I don't think a poll is necessary. Don't feel bad =] though it may serve as a warning to potential inquirers. There are a plethora of questions that annoy the crap out of me!

I hate people who post threads about having done bad in a class or a few classes. Example: I got a B in Calculus, will that ruin my chances? God I hate those questions 😡 Oh no! You got a B! Your life is a black abyss! AHHH!!!

Especially from all of the freshman ones.

Has to be the MD vs DO and the URM threads. It's kind of fun to watch the holy battles in the background.

whether a URM from an IVY should go DO or MD

And got banned from SDN.

I have a 3.9 GPA and 39 MCAT from Harvard. What are my chances for Harvard Medical school? I am doomed because I don't have a 4.0? :scared::scared::scared:

Other.

Bragging threads (poorly) disguised as legit questions.

"I had a 4.0 through my freshmen and sophomore years but I got a B- in O. Chem this semester! Do I still have a shot?"

👎

Definitely the MD vs DO threads 😡 Shut-up. They are both recognized as equal medical degrees in regards to what they can do. I push for a motion that anyone who starts a MD vs DO thread is... tarred and feathered :meanie:

Not if you want to practice several places abroad.

+1. Always irritated by those kids in class who raised their hand to "ask a question" but are really attempting to demonstrate how much they know. This is the same thing.

i would probably have to say the boxer vs briefs threads. I try to remain neutral by picking boxer briefs.

A close second would be the one started by you....a completely pointless thread started by someone who has nothing better to do in there life.

Note:::::I also have no life seeing that I actually opened your ridiculously pointless thread.

If a thread really bothers me that much, I just close the tab. Presto! Annoyance solved. 🙂

Amen and AMEN! I'm glad other people feel my pain. Oooo boy, if I have to see one more thread about sending Thank Yous or LOIs...come on people!

and I voted anything related to URM and admissions...ish can get ugly real fast (I recall on one thread, someone mentioning something about Blacks and basketball and questioning why HBCUs don't have better bball teams...smh!)

I get sick of the URM bashing threads...people need to stop using anecdotes and look up the facts before spouting nonsense. Makes me sick..

Obviously the URM and DO/MD ones are annoying because people just spout BS and sound really ignorant. But I usually just avoid them completely.

The Ivy/non-Ivy threads grate my butt because people bicker endlessly over how much of a hundred of a percent one school gives you an advantage over another. I always just want to tell people to just whip em out and measure and be done with it. 🙄

Should've waited until March or so to post this poll. Then we'd have the "omg, help me pick a school--a, b, c, x, y, z, or aa??" threads for proper comparison.

Some of us should probably pick AA.

the URM threads are annoying and sad, because the people who say the most hurtful things are going to become doctors.

DO v MD, people just know to say "whatever" and it dies

Personally the "I got an A-, will I have to apply to the Carib?????" threads are funny

Threads that start with "I'm so sick of..." tend to end up quite incendiary.

Definitely URM. Anecdotes start flying around pretty fast and pent up anger and frustration is released under the veil of anonymity. That and there are just some blatant on SDN.

How about healthcare debate threads? Those are cesspools of misinformed name-calling and all-around d0uchebaggery.
