I just got an email from GWU stating that there were a lot of applications and that I am on hold....got another one from MSU-CHM stating that I am on hold....what the hell does that mean? If its a rejection then why dont they just get it over with?! Do I actually have a shot at an interview at these places if I am on hold or is it just a matter of time before I get the rejection letter? Thanks for the info guys...

It is not a rejection. It is a "maybe" - you may be selected for an interview, you may not. Just wait patiently and be glad you aren't rejected. Good luck.

it is more like a delayed-rejection, esp some schools like George Washington. Sometimes, it is better to get rejected outright then 5 months down the road

What difference does it make? Just consider it a rejection and if you get an interview its a bonus. If its one of your top choices a loi may help.

no, it is ALWAYS better to get rejected outright than 5 months down the road. that way you have 5 more months to plan out alternatives.

I would be planning out alternatives in any case. Being on hold is better than being rejected if there is any possibility of eventually being accepted. If it's the same as a rejection for that particular school then treat it as a rejection anyways.
