Hi..I am applying for residency 2008. I have been interviewing and usually at the end of the interview, some/most of the faculty/director state, "we are going to rank you high"..How much of this is true? Do they say this to all other applicants? What is high..number 15 out of 80 or something..Obviously if it is a place you are really interested in it is like music to your ears, that is what you want to hear...anyone hear this as well..thanks.

Its very common.

It might be true.

It might be perceived as a "polite" thing to say to an applicant.

It might be seen as a good way to end an otherwise awkward encounter.

It might be something they say to every candidate.

It might be an out and out lie.

You don't know how high is high because you can't ask, nor can they ask you how high you'll rank them.

And you don't now what high means...at a program that has to go down to their number 30 to fill their positions, 15 would be high. At a program that only goes to number 10 to fill, 15 would be low.

End of date:

Hey I had a great time and I will call you.
