I just wanted to know some general things that I should avoid and what to include when writing my personal statement. When there is a pool of applicants that have around the same score as you I was wondering how to make my statement standout. For those that have written and have been accepted or even those that are in the middle of writing one I am hoping if you can shed some light on this matter. Thanks

I believe that experience and ability to succeed should really stand out. They really want to see if you can handle the workload and will not break down. So, if you already have some kind of an experience working in a Dental office that is a big plus. Also, they want to see something about you that makes you unique and at the same time a really good candidate. They want to know more about you besides your Grades and DAT score. So, compile everything positive about yourself in that statement. They would like to see how you find a way out of a difficult situation, so kind of show then that you are not a quitter. Lastly, really try to impress them when you talk about why you are applying to Dental school. Show them something unique, besides "I want to be a Dentist because I like it...." I mean be original. Tell them what exactly made you so sure about becoming a Dentist.
Good luck on you statement.
