Hello,

I really want to go to dental school. Right now, I'm a freshman with a 3.9 GPA, but I haven't taken any science classes yet because I was originally planning on something else.

Now that I know I want to do dentistry, I'm wondering whether I should go to UIC, Loyola University Chicago, or Illinois Institute of Technology for pre-dent. Now, as you probably know, UIC has a dental school, while Loyola does not. However, Loyola has a very respected medical school, and thus a very successful pre-health program that includes advising on all healthcare fields. Illinois Institute of Technology does not have any type of health school, but they do have a pre-health program. Also, IIT only has about 7,000 undergrads so it may be less competitive.

So, what I'm wondering is if I were to go to UIC and do the pre-dent program there along with joining the pre-dent club, would my chances of getting into UIC's dental school (or any other dental school) be better than if I went to Loyola for undergrad? One of my concerns is that since UIC is a state school, the required science classes may be more difficult in order to weed out weaker candidates while Loyola may be easier. Is there any truth behind this?

Also, if I were to major in something like Information Technology while fulfilling the pre-dent reqs, would that hurt my chances of getting into dental school?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!
