If you don't have a room yet the Sleep Inn in Amherst is awesome.

I was rather fond of the Holiday Inn @ Amherst. If you mention UB medical/dental, you'll get a discount and free shuttle service to the airport and the school.

Other than that, grab some Buffalo wings. I don't know what place is good though - I only had time to eat at the airport.

Wings - Rosas Cafe in Budweys supermarket on kenmore, much better than the "famous" ones

go to DUFFS for buffalo wings.. when i had an interview there i stayed with a friend (made the experience better, showed me all around campus/town) but the wings are incredible.

i rented a car, motel 6 @ amherst. explored some highways. went to duffs for sure, tried a weck, got a nice pitcher, and a dozen or so wings for take out hotel food 🙂
i spent a fair amount of time checking out north campus, you can get a free library guest pass to use the computers (good for a year).
also checked out the buffalo sabres playing against the detroit red wings, rode the train (trolly?) there from the south campus.

go to WEGMANS... yes it is a supermarket and yes it is that amazing.

I personally like Anchor Bar for wings over Duffs; to each their own.

If you are not from the area I would take the 20 minute drive, assuming you have a rental car and go to Niagara Falls. Also if it is something you are interested in you can check out the Martin House: one of Frank Lloyd Wright's famous houses.

and good luck...

wegmans subs / heros are amazing..
