Howdy! I'm in the process of completing my thesis master's in animal science at Texas A&M University. I finished all of my required graduate coursework this summer and have spent this fall semester retaking courses from my undergraduate years that I didn't so so well in (such as ochem). We all know that there are some schools that don't give us any updates on the progress of our applications until April sometimes. I have a few decisions to make but I would like the opinions of professionals or other students that have encountered a similar situation. So, here are my situational options for next semester:

1. Continue retaking courses (ochem II and biochem II in particular- keep in mind most schools don't require biochem II as a prerequisite anymore) while I wait to hear back from schools.

OR

2. Take the semester off to solely focus on finishing my thesis (and save money).

Any ideas about what you think/know schools would prefer would be incredibly helpful. Or even where to look or who to ask would be great, too.

Thanks & Gig 'Em!

Well, did you not get a C or better in these classes that you want to retake? that definitely needs to be done if so. Dependent on where you applied though, your graduate GPA should improve your chances. by that token, I've also written a thesis and I know it's very time consuming. If you need time to do that, take time to make it good. you'll honestly probably hear from most schools about interviews before Christmas or after new years. I'm not sure which ones send out acceptances in the spring months (though they exist).

Also, just a word of caution on using your real picture on here. (I think a lot of us have done it lol)

Also, Hail State! 😛

Well, the last two courses I would retake (OChem II and Biochem II<-- no longer a prerequisite for most schools) I received C's in. I want schools to see I'm trying to constantly improve, but I'm also not willing to waste the money to retake those courses if it won't improve my chances in the future. I know that Kansas State doesn't even bother to look at grad school GPA (I wish they did because I had a 4.0 last year when I applied). I'm not sure how many other schools do this, but I know there are a lot of them that don't really factor in graduate GPAs. Oklahoma State was the last school I heard from last year around late March/early April. Hopefully with the application being due earlier this year I will hear back from more schools sooner, too.
