Hi everyone,

I just want to say that I am glad that this forum exists. There is so much information, and I am fortunate to have many of my questions answered.

So I am a senior and I've been on the pre-health track for some years now. I'm quite excited that I only have 2 more classes to take. Both classes are physics and then I will DONE...well at least with my bachelors.

That said, I am really turning over when I should take the DAT. I plan on knocking out the physics courses in the summer. However, I was also planning on visiting my family in North Africa later in the summer, as I haven't seen them since 2005.

I'm really tossing over if I should even bother taking the DAT in August/September and submitting my application late.

I also need to work on shadowing or volunteering in a dental clinic. I was referred to the name a few in my area, however I am currently a full time student and working part time. I don't think I can add another thing to my schedule...not to mention I am a mom. 😉 The good thing is that I am an undergraduate researcher and I was a School of Life Sciences mentor for 2 semesters. So I have those working for me.

My current GPA is 3.64. I am hoping that it will continue to rise this semester.

So I am asking those who have taken their time to read this as to what they think I should do? My SO is pushing for me to take the DAT in August. I really want to make sure that I do the six week study plan because getting a good score on the DAT is must. Plus I have a slight math amnesia and I really need to improve and refresh those skills.

Thanks for reading

So many things to do and so little time!

Hi Jellyfish.

After reading your post it is apparent to me your are a very dedicated and hardworking student. In my opinion your focus should be on maintaining your excellent GPA. You are taking 2 semesters of Physics during the summer which will be extremely challenging. You goal should be to get an an A in the class. Studying for the DAT and taking Physics, working, plus a Mom would be overload for most students.

The DAT is a very challenging exam and not a test you want to take more than once. If you are ready in August by all means take the test, but if you don’t feel prepared it would be in your best interest to postpone until you feel ready.

BTW, you could start refreshing your math skills at anytime, taking baby steps now can avoid overload in the future.

Hope this helps🙂...

Hopefully this helps. Pick a date in August and set up check points through your 6 week study plan. If you see your self starting to struggle or fall behind, bite the bullet and go to September. Better to take a little more time then to walk out with an 18 or so.

Also start studying now!!!! Nothing to crazy, but review simple concepts: Energy cycle, SN1/2 and E1/2, PV=NRT. Get your self into the mode of studying so once you enter the 6 week study cycle, you are already prepared.

Macabalony I agree with this statement 100 percent!

Thank you all! I really appreciate your responses. I was beginning to think that I could start studying for the DAT during my Physics 101 summer course which starts mid May to the end of June. I hear the class is pretty easy and it is 5 days a week from 8:30-9:55 am and the lab is 3-4 hours long one day a week. Do you think it is possible to take a Physics 10 and also do the 6-8 week DAT study course? I don't have to take the second Physics until Fall and I'm not stressing them too badly.

Thanks again.

Hi JellyFish,

Thanks for adding additional information. I thought you were taking 2 semesters of Physics in the summer, shew, that would have left little time to study. If you complete Physics 1 end of June you might be able to pull it off, I know you are visiting your family you have not seen in many years, but hopefully they will understand you will need to put some study in hours while visiting. So plan on taking your DAT study materials along.

You will have to determine when you are fully prepared, no one can know that answer but you. By far the biggest mistake I see students make is underestimating the difficulty of the DAT and taking it too soon. There are many different versions of the DAT so you must prepare for whatever comes your way.

Please keep us posted...and if you have any other questions post them or feel free to private message me anytime. I truly enjoy seeing students reach their goals.
