orry to make this another one of those , could I get in.... posts, but i would really appreciate brutal honesty either from residents or attendings. So I am taking a year off to do neurology research, which I intended to do because I was interested in a career in academic neurology. But I as the months go by, I find myself missing the or. I spent some time with the ns team during my surgical rotation, and i loved it. The academic life is not as appealing as I thought it woudl be. So now Im stuck and I dont know what to do with my life.
It would help to know if I even had a chance to match. If matching is complete absurdity, then it would be easier to walk away from it. I just dont want to live my life doing EEGs and thinking what if. It would also be important for me to stay around my homestate (Cali)
Here are my stats and stuff. Brutal honesty is again much apprecaited.
Step 1 236
Clinical grades: Pysch- Pass, Medicine-High Pass, Ob/gyn-Pass (but great written eval, I blew the shelf), Peds- high pass, Surg- Pass (great written eval by director, resident hated me)
so, my clinical grades obviously blow chunks. But Ill have a year of neuro research (may/may not publish).
So please put me out of my misery, tell me its pointless to try to match. Is it too late to switch gears and pursue the ns track?
Thanks for the help
