Well, for the depression you can go see a counselor and get prescribed with some antis if needed.

For the DAT, you can retake in 3 months.

but can I still apply for this year...?
3 more months would be end of october...wouldn't it be too late....
this DAT seems impossible to me, really...
how did you review for it? my weaknesses are QR and genchem....
which review material allow to improve a lot?

Sign up now to retake the test in 3 months. The DAT is by and far a test of knowledge, not natural aptitude or IQ. If you put in the effort, and study right, there is no reason to not hit the 20's. Read some of the breakdowns on the "List of DAT scores 21+" and follow that advice.

bowlofrice, how did you prepare? Taking the DAT in October is kinda late, but if you have already submitted your app for this cycle, then yeah, I would retake then and see what your chances are... If you haven't then, no, I wouldn't send out my app b/c its just going to be a waste of money. And just b/c you have to retake isn't the end of the world. Now you know how to study for this beast and when you meet it the next time you will totally b**ch slap the heck outta it. Don't get depressed about it either, you are not the first to not do so well (I am having to retake as well). Life goes on so we have to move on. Good luck with whatever decision you decide to make.

QR just lots of practice, people use the math destroyer but I dont have time for that; I just look at kaplans test for QR.

Genchem chads videos is a nice general overview of all the topics. Any gen chem reading would be good though.

hey man check out my breakdown, I had the exact same scores as yourself the first time i took the DAT.

I believe a majority of the schools cutoff time for retaking the DAT's is OCT 15th. You should pull your application out, study and apply next year. Since you had a lot of stuff down, you should continue studying, ace it and apply next year.

Bowl,

Although life does not allow you to make a brand new start, nothing can stop you from starting right now and creating the amazing ending. The answer to your question is YES! I know it sounds all cliché and lame, but its never too late! I am 28 and I can tell you that from experience, not opinion.

You know exactly whats up. You got a realtime taste of what the DAT is really all about. Now... You keep your head up and prepare to engage on this beast in 3 months. Even Magic Johnson had an off night every now and then, not to mention I think a lot of people take the DAT twice (some do it just to challenge themselves and do better).

This forum shows the fruits of dedication. In my opinion, the dudes who rock a 972AA do not achieve that by mistake or pure luck. They know what they want and they go hard for it. Bottom line - we have to do the same.

Good luck. You got this for sure!

Thanks for your support, but I feel like this exam determines my career...
I took the kaplan course (which was useless by the way) but I got tons of practice exams. Actually I got the same score as I had on the kaplan practice.
I have everything ready for my app, I just need to send it. I thought I had to wait my DAT scores to send the application, but I'm wrong uh?

Having a low score is like a slap on your face. This exam seems impossible, especially quantitative reasoning.
How can I improve my score? I'm feeling so dumb, I mean I'm not a bad student, my GPA is 3.6 overall (just ok) but I cannot apply things, that's why. Guess I have to take it more seriously.

Really ?

I'm applying to NOVA and UF, their deadlines are Dec15 and 1st.
I'm not gonna let that exam decide of my fate. I'll take it again in 3 months, I really want to start dental school next year...I will be done with my BS in July :/

Wow, you are so right...
I mean how can this exam stops me from being what I wanna be? It's just a question of determination I guess...I'm pulling up my sleeves and ready to do a lot better next time.

That's great, you have plenty of time to retake it then. It will be pretty late in the game so you will have to do extremely well.
