I amgoing to shadow zoo vets and vet techs tomorrow but I do not know what would be appropriate to wear. I'm not sure whether or not I can help out or not so that kind of makes it hard to decide on what to wear. I didn't get a chance to ask her and she takes a while to reply since she's really busy. So I don't think I would get an answer by tomorrow morning. Any help would be great. Thanks! 😀

I like to err on the side of more professional and would go with khakis and appropriate shirt (polo or the like) and comfortable, sturdy footwear. If you happen to have a scrub top, it never hurts to bring it along just in case.

Thanks! I actually tried e-mailing them and they told me to wear something comfortable and easy to clean! 🙂 The problem is solved!

The zoo I worked at, everyone wore khakis and a polo top (zoo issued)... a light blue polo. I have never had to wash the same items so much in my life.

I shadowed once at a zoo and the other people wore khaki pants and a polo shirt. Unfortunately, I have neither, so I went with a scrub top and bottom. But they didn't mind. 🙂

I do not have khakis unfortunately.. and my scrubs haven't came in yet 🙁 Do you think black denim jeans are okay?

I don't actually know but the zoo vet I shadowed did not like jeans. :\ But I'm not sure what else you can wear. I'm sure if you explain to them that you don't have either and that you'll wear it the next time, it'll be okay? Do you have any friends you can borrow pants (khakis or scrubs) from?

I don't 🙁 but according to her e-mail it doesn't seem like she cares too much? Or I could be wrong. This is what she said - "Something you don't mind getting dirty. If you have scrubs and want to wear them, that's fine. If not, whatever you can be comfortable in and washes easily is okay too. We're outside a lot, so bring a sweatshirt or jacket. Everyone usually wears hiking boots, they're tough and comfortable."

How were you able to do this? I live near a zoo, and it doesn't seem like they offer these sort of opportunities.

I actually volunteer for a biology professor at my university. It's for a turtle conservation project and they send the turtle off to my local zoo once they grew up. So one time I got to volunteer at that zoo when they were determining the turtles' sex and then after that opportunity I asked the vet if I could come in another day to shadow him!

I would go out and buy a pair of nice khakis and a decent shirt that you can have in your closet for things like this in the future.
👍 In my experience khakis and a polo (color depends on facility) are standard zoo attire.

Thanks everyone! 🙂 I am guessing that khaki jeans do not count as true khaki pants?
