What to wear when not interviewing?

So, there is the day of formal interviews, but what about the social outings and informal meetings? What do you wear then?

Informal meetings? Outings? Are you doing MD/PhD? Otherwise, I dont see why Id need to worry about stuff outside of the formal interview day.
