For each application, you submit your profile, grades, MCAT score, PS, secondary essays, etc. lots of stuff.
Do adcoms actually care to look at your profile to see what your parents' jobs are, your family income, your location, etc. seemingly trivial things like those?

You're writing about your parents income in your PS? That info isn't on the AMCAS... you submit it to some schools with financial aid, if that.

No, what made you think I'd write about income in PS?

Say, if an applicant's parents are doctors, will adcoms know without him writing it in PS?

They wouldn't know unless you wrote about it in your PS or they knew you before you applied through your parents.

the OP did not imply this in any way.

jeez, give him a break. i believe this is the question he was asking-- do they look at this stuff or not? our AMCAS hasn't opened yet, so unless people logged into the 2009 version, we haven't actually seen the application. no need to be mean. 🙄

OP, the only thing i can think of that you mentioned that DOES matter is your location-- just in the sense that your state of residency is important. they don't particularly care if you're there while you fill out the application (keep in mind, it's mostly college students living away from home that are applying).

I don't think drizzt's comments were out of line.

The first post was the ask whether the OP disclosed that information anywhere since it's not a typical part of an application.

The second post was to reassure the OP with a clarification.

Let's get thicker skin, people.

The AMCAS does have an optional section that asks parentsl names, county of residence (or country of residence if they are not in the USA), last educational institution attended, and profession or occupation. The profession/occupation is from a drop down menu so it is not super-specfic although I think there may be a free text option, as well.

Yes, the adcom does look at this information if you provide it. It never hurts anyone and it can help if the adcom thinks that it shows your familiarity with medicine as a career, or it indicates that you grew up in a setting that is underrepresented among students at their school (rural v. urban) , or that you overcame hardships (parents didn't go to college or didn't graduate HS). In an interview, it can lead to questions exploring "why medicine" including why you chose medicine over your parents' professions or your parents' opinions of your choice to follow in their footsteps.
