It would be good to get some insight from you all in my current predicament. I am diligent seeking a PGY 1, Prelim in IM, or PGY1 Fam. I have just completed a 1 year clinical research fellowship in Endocrinology i.e. outpatient Diabetic care and I am looking to beef up resume further , but not sure which option is more valuable. The options are:

1. 1 month externship in US in FM / clinical research fellowship in US for a year (not garuntee/ search for a job in US health care field.
2. 1 Year Prelim Outside of the US that will give me practical Clinical experience/training.

I have dual citizenship for both US and the country where I would potentially do Prelim. There are pros and cons for both situations and time is of the essence to make a decision.

Just to be thorough, I am a US ECFMG post- grad 1.5 years with all boards done except step 3. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Ultimately the primary goal is to gain a residency spot in primary care, so if anyone has any assistance in that regards YOU ARE MOST WELCOME! Take care

If you want a residency in the US, the best way to accomplish that is to get clinical experience in whatever form you can in the United States. Training undertaken outside the US will not help you much.
