Today I received a call on my voicemail in regards to setting up an interview with a pharmacy school. Although this is a very nice school, I am in a dilemma because I have not yet been contacted by my #1 choice yet.

I would like to set up the interview as soon as possible with this (other) school because I know that my chances only get tougher if I wait. But since I have not yet heard from my #1 choice, should I call my #1 school and ask them when they are anticipating their interview schedule by letting them know that I've already been asked to interview at another school?

I don't want to be pushy to my #1 school, but I would like to be interviewed with them very soon. How can I proceed by calling them without being considered as pushy?

Please don't ask me to reveal these schools. I'd rather keep it private.

Thanks!

I could be way off base here, but I would totally go ahead and set up the interview.

I understand the motivation to see what your 1st choice has to say, but I assume you would not have applied to this other school unless you were willing to go there. Why would you risk not getting accepted?

Again, I could be way wrong, but if you at least if you set-up the interview and go through with it, you're giving your first choice school an extra few weeks to respond. Its not like you have to make a commitment to your "2nd" choice school AT the interview.

With all that being said, you could probably ask your first choice *generally* when they start making interview requests if you're really worried. I know that my top 2 schools don't start contacting people until January/February.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Set up the interview with the school that called. I don't want to be harsh, but your first choice may not contact you. I wouldn't push them about when they interview. Good luck with the interview.

I tried to edit and couldn't, but I wanted to add that I would definitely NOT call your 1st choice and tell them you have an interview at another school. If you just HAVE to know when to expect a call from your 1st choice, I would position it more like "When do you typically start contacting applicants for interviews?" and keep it very broad and general.

It is very VERY unlikely that the two interviews are going to be on the same day, much less week. I'd just go on the interview.

Go. You'll kick yourself if you don't go, and , for some reason, you don't get into your number 1.

Some schools don't even start interviews until January or later. Find out when your 1st choice school does interviews, but also, go to the other school. It is good to have a back up. I know of people who believed they were going to get into a school, but did not even get an interview. Don't pass up this opportunity.
