Microbiology
Genetics
Immunology - requires genetics and micro
Mammalian Physiology - requires cell bio
Biochem 1
Biochem 2 - requires biochem 1
Cell biology & physiology

I've got the priviliage of arguably taking almost all of those classes. But since that will probably damage my gpa, I want to shorten my list down a bit.

Also at my school immunology just requires genetics and microbiology, but recommends cell biology. Do any of you think that immunology is difficult or impossible without cell biology or do you think that it can be done?

Yah tell me what classes you think I should go ahead and take for the mcat and for medical school prep.

Immunology and cell biology 🙂

Sorry if that means you gotta take micro and genetics :/ but i loved those two classes, they were the most interesting classes I've ever taken (besides cancer bio and complex variables).

Complex variables? That sounds like math.. hissss .

But yah I'm very tempted to take immunology since people say its a major help for medical school. I think I could take cell biology my 4th year first semester along with biochem 1 and a required neuroscience lab for my major. But yah I heard microbiology is fun and genetics well I think its bound to be interesting haha.

Haha .. looks like the advice is probably going to be all over the place .. Based off of my experiences, I'd recommend at least one semester of biochemistry, cell bio and mammalian physiology .. I feel like the first two are fairly common courses for most bio majors .. and I absolutely loved my physiology class. Besides the fact that it covers a lot of the MCAT bio stuff, I found the material to be fascinating.

At least with my courses, you got enough genetics between cell biology and biochemistry, and we also covered the immune system and basic immunology in physiology (plus a bit in anatomy as well)

Biochem and Genetics.

Also, >privilege

You sure have a funny way of looking at classes at your school.

Oh yeah complex is math haha. It has to do with imaginary numbers and stuff. Pretty cool.

And another thing I would do is maybe see if you can get a syllabus for the classes (email the prof or ask other students) b/c some classes will overlap what they teach in a way. So if you're interested in a certain subject and that's the only reason you're taking the class, you may be able to learn about it in a different class, along with other stuff that interests you. (Like maybe your cell class will cover a lot of immunology and genetics, so you could opt to just take cell bio and learn enough about all three to get you a little head start).

It's worth checking into possibly.

To my understanding Genetics, Cell bio/physio, Mammalian Physiology, and biochemistry are the classes that will help you the most for the Bio section of the MCAT. All the MCAT material from microbiology should be covered in Genetics.

No offense but I think its dumb to take a class because it help you in medical school when your not even in medical school yet. You should be taking classes that will prepare you enough to beast the MCAT. Its pointless to try to prepare for medical school when you still trying to get into medical school. Then once you've achieved that, aim for medical school.
