Okay so I'm not too sure how I should feel about this...

...I stopped by work today to drop off a prescription for my puppy, and my boss (who has been out of town for the last week) told me that he emailed the School of Pharmacy. He had mentioned a few weeks ago that he wanted to find out when the interviews began so that he knew what Saturday to schedule me off (which was extremely gracious of him, but totally un-necessary, and I told him this). Mind you, the PIC used to be a prof at Campbell and knows people everywhere very well, including the woman in charge of admissions at UNC.

So I asked him what they said. "Nothing yet, but I didn't really expect a response anyhow." I must have looked puzzled, because he said next that he just told them that "I've got a great technician that works for me who is sharp and has a wonderful personality, and would make a very welcome addition to their program."

I was flattered, but at the same time a little concerned. I didn't want it to seem like I'm trying to "daddy's boy" my way into the program, because I really don't think I'd need the help getting in (and I know how much I resent those people). Should I just be grateful and forget about it, or should I be worried? I figured that after 18 years on that side of the adcom would lend him enough insight to not try it if he knew it would have adverse effects...

I feel very uneasy.

I think any comment like the one your boss made to the adcomm would be regarded positively. As long as he isn't calling everyday or something to that effect, I doubt they'll see it as someone trying to help his employee get into a program through his connections. I wouldn't worry about it too much 🙂 Good luck with everything!

Thanks guys. I really do feel better about it. 🙂

Hey,
If he worked with those people then they probably know his personality at least as well as you do! Just think of it as a bonus! It couldn't possibly hurt! 🙂

i dont think you should get worked up. why get wary when good things are being said? you should get worried only when bad things are  👍

What in the world are you worried about? His comment was very flattering, not at all over the top and appropriate given his history at the school. Think of it as an extra letter of recommendation.

See that's the thing, I've just never been in a position where anyone could actually do that for me, and I just didn't know how admissions committees perceived it.

Otherwise I'm all for it. 👍
