What's difference between Private & Public Universities??

Im asking because I attend a State school that I do not find to be "prestigious". I guess I am thinking of the classic scenario of 3.8 (Harvard) student vs 3.8(state school) student. I also realize that because of this...I will NEED to get a GREAT MCAT score in order to get into a top tier school such as Stanford.

You are going to need a great MCAT score to get into Stanford no matter where you went for undergrad. I am not really sure if you question is about the differences in public or private for undergrad or Med school. In general your undergrad institution does not matter when you are applying to med school. Some people will tell you that it plays a minor role, but it's not a big deal. Public med schools give a lower tuition and accept more in state residents. Private med schools tend to get more applications and don't give much in state preference or tuition discount, if any.
