I'm 22 years old in my 8th semester as a Pre-Business major at my third university. I took a semester off because of financial and medical reasons. And honestly, I haven't been taking college seriously and have been feeling hopeless and worthless in terms of what I've been doing with my life up until now. At the last stretch, I'm finally taking my future seriously. My grandfather and uncle were both surgeons and worked in a clinic that my grandfather established in order to help those in the community who couldn't afford treatment or lived too far from a hospital. I hope to one day do the same.
Unfortunately, I'm holding a GPA of 2.35 without any ECs nor medical school pre-requisites. My plan is to graduate (hopefully) in 2012 with an Economics degree and working after that while knocking off the pre-reqs. Then, I hope to start the application process 2 years after that. I was wondering if I could receive advice on what steps I should be taking right now concerning clinical experience, ECs, etc. to better my chances of getting into medical school.
