What's the best emergency medicine resi... ahh heck, I can't even do it.😀

What I seriously wanted to know is from some of the current residents what are the things you really like about the program you chose? Are there any unique things or things that made the program stand out to you (and thus why you chose it)? I suppose I'm going for things that you won't necessarily find on FREIDA or SAEM...

I understand this can be found to a certain extent on the "Residency Reviews" post (which I've read most of...), but most of those are from students there for a short time. I'd be interested to know what the resident says who's been there for a couple of years...

Yale: We have a very strong ultrasound program, as well as six months of critical care time, six months of electives, and the opportunity to work overseas (Zambia, Uganda, Eritrea, Honduras, Vietnam, etc.) with funding providing by the medical school/hospital.

Intern here at Wayne State U./Detroit Receiving Hospital. Kind of hard to separate what I like and what stands out because what I like are also things that stands out.

What I like:
- The residents and faculty are easy to get along with and supportive.
- I just had a gut feeling that I would fit in here.
- All peds EM shifts at the Children's Hospital of Michigan next door.
- The large, medically-underserved, urban population.
- 3 elective months in a 3-year program (1 month each year).
- Curriculum lay-out (EM and CC in 2nd-year, only EM in 3rd-year).
- Ancillary staff is quite good from what I was used to.
- Hospital known for its emergency and trauma care.
- Fast-track and observation units.
- School of medicine on campus which to me translates into plenty of academic resources and med student teaching opportunities.

What stands out:
- Level-1 trauma center that has the whole gamut of traumatic injuries coming in. Burns, gun shot wounds, stabbings, high-speed motor vehicle collisions and rollovers, assaults, falls, water/boating injuries, transfers from suburban/rural facilities, etc.
- All peds EM shifts at the children's hospital on campus.
- Clean, modern ED with good use of technology.
- ED-critical care month.
- In-department 24-hr pharmacy, lab, and radiology.

Thanks for your input to those who've posted so far, and for the couple of people who've PMed me. These are all three programs I didn't really know that much about, and that's was my point in starting this thread.

I appreciate that you took the time😀

Anyone in Jersey that wants to share...even if in PM?

The new PD is terrific and is picking up where Prommes left off and is running with the ball. She is an advocate for residents big time and we are now going to be getting more community rotation experience added to our experiences. New ED is partially open and will be totally open by sometime in Nov. The faculty and nurses here are awesome and friendly. Ultrasound and cardiac training is going to be outstanding here so this is an even better choice than I imagined it would be. More good stuff in the making. Take a close look you will not be sorry.

why aren't more residents posting here? Seems like a nice opportunity to boast!!! 😀
