What's the Best Route for the AOA to Take?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

The AOA should:

  • Not allow DO students to take the USMLE or enter MD residencies.

    Votes: 4 11.8%
  • Preserve the status quo.

    Votes: 2 5.9%
  • Approve a combined match.

    Votes: 18 52.9%
  • Eliminate the COMLEX and approve a combined match.

Not allowing DO students to enter MD residencies would be disastrous considering there are not nearly enough DO residencies to take in all the DO graduates

I'm not quite sure that's true. I think it depends on the location. I know of some hospitals that don't fill all their DO resident spots. I believe that elmination of the COMLEX eliminates the need of a "terminal" test for OMM and that would be a shame because that is one of the highlights and advantages of the DO program.

Yes, a lot of DO spots certainly remain open, but that is because a lot of DOs choose MD residencies. I believe I read (and heard again at the NSU interview) that there are not nearly enough DO residency spots/DO graduate
