Whats the max units in one semester??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I took 21 my "last" semester. I think it depends on the school as far as the max they will allow you to take. At mine, anything above 18 hours was required to be approved by either a) your department head (if you had a 3.5 gpa or above) or b) the dean (if you had below a 3.5). No idea though how many hours I would have been allowed to take. So to answer your question 21.

You can wind up with some misleading answers to that question when some people on the quarter system start posting. I think most semester systems count hours pretty much the same way, but there are some places on the quarter system which seem to grant a rather large number of credit hours per weekly classroom hour.

26 looks like my biggest.
just did 24 in the spring....14 over the summer.
i dont suggest doing this unless you have an amazing ability at getting straight As

I think the max is somewhere around 21. I hovered between 20-22 for a few semesters, and every single semester I had to get my Dean to approve it. The most interesting was when I took a J-term class which showed up on my spring transcript, so I ended up with 24 credits and had to go all the way to the Dean of Students to explain and get approval. I wouldn't recommend taking a lot of credits just for the hell of it, though. I did it because I was taking a couple of history classes every semester. I couldn't have taken 20 credits of science without going insane.

17 during regular semester, but I took 18 that counted for the Spring semester last year... 3 of those were during winter break, and the other 15 were regular semester.

I know a kid that's taking 29 this semester...

i've done 21 at a semester school and at a quarter school and it is about the same.

yes, most my classes at a quarter school are 5 credit hours instead of the normal 3 at a semester school, but i also spend 5 hours a week in class and things are more condensed and done at a slightly faster pace.

if i had to pick which one was harder, i'd say 21 at a quarter school was harder than 21 at a semester school.

my boyfriend has the record at his undergrad for the most hours in in one semester @ 30 (and managed to get a 4.0)

DAMN, 30 credit hours = 10 classes?!

being one of 20 special honors students he got special privledges. two of the classes were at the same time so the one professor just let him take the tests/quizzes and he self-studied for the class.

he ended up w/ a B.S. in economics, finance, and spanish and minors in accounting, philosphy, and english (from a 400 pg thesis he wrote).

and then he went to law school so none of it mattered really 😛

I did 20. It was rough because I was working 25 hours a week and president of a club..plus these were classes that you had to schedule weekly/biweekly group meetings that lasted 2 to 3 hours eacha long with outside work.

Previous uni, once you got above 21 they started charging you extra. Not to mention you are usually crazy unless they are like general psychology, sociology and gym classes.

i don't consider myself crazy. i took 7 upper-division courses including 3 honors courses. 21 hours. i had to get approval, but they didn't charge extra for ever 40 credit hours a semester.

my boyfriend doing 30, however, is crazy 🙂

At my school, anything over 17 (maybe 18, but it never lets me register for 18 without special permission 😕 ) requires special permission. I've taken 22 before, and I've taken 14 over the summer. It really isn't that big a deal if you know you can handle it.

18 myself this semester, 19 costs extra money, anything over 19 requires special permission, and absolutely no more than 21.

I hate to be so skeptical, but this just seems like a lie. If it's true, congrats to your boyfriend! He must have had many sleepless nights.

The most I've taken is 18. I usually average around 15-16. Anything 19+ requires additional tuition...

naw he really did. i made him prove it to me or else i wouldn't have believed him either. he pretty much never left his room except to eat, shower, and use the restroom. he was pretty much an anti-social loser in undergrad 😛

glad i didn't know him then haha
