Whats the opinion on distance learning?

Certain schools don't take online or distance learning courses. UC Davis comes to mind, although I'm not sure how many others won't accept these types of credits as well.

I have the ability to do distance learning for the class, physics: our universe. Is it worth it? What would adcoms think bout the class?

Do you not need a lab that goes with it to fulfill the pre-requisites?

Some physics class don't have a lab, at least not a required one. I was informed that our physics class, being 8 credits and integrated with calculus, was sufficient to fill both the semester and lab credit requirement. Didn't stop me, though. MATLAB was fun! XD

How do the schools know if the class if an online course. There doesn't seem to be any indication on my transcripts.

If it is not noted on the transcript, they wouldn't now. Unless, of course, you live in Oklahoma City and the school is in Phoenix, then it might be apparent.

Precisely. I know a fair amount of schools do not denote the class as specifically an online class, thus adcoms would have no way of knowing whether it is or isnt, unless you tell them. Which you would never do 😀

MATLAB is fun. Used it in a bunch of my math / physics classes. Good stuff that.

Opinion on distance learning: lame. No real evidence that it's you doing the work.

Probably not worth it unless you're serving in the military and can't get to school any other way because you're in the middle of the desert living in a dirty hole but have an Internet connection delivered by satellite.

well that is my situation. NOT

I was wondering for this so i could stay home during the week (like one class at home). this would mean less commuting, headache, and possibly taking an extra class (18 credits total then)

Yeah, that doesn't really sound like a "good" excuse for taking a pre-req online. As was said, about the only good reason would be if you had no other way b/c you were in the military. Otherwise, online classes are probably the one kind of course that's on a lower rung than a CC course. Online classes are known for their lack of consistency in quality and few people would consider such a course equivalent to its traditional classroom counterpart. Additionally, since you wouldn't be able to do a lab online, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot application time. There's really no reason you can't take 18 units of traditional classroom courses. Many here have taken 18-21 units/semester quite frequently. It's a lot of work but still very doable. The way to avoid needless commuting is to schedule your classes back-to-back or with small breaks.
