So i've been playing around with it and basically just studying for my courses and what not. I took a 30 q test on the material I just had final exams on and got a 57%... wtf?

How do I start preparing for these types of questions? I feel like I didn't even learn half the details in these questions... oi.. this was a bad start😡

are u guys in a traditional curriculum or systems?.....I ask b/c the questions usually integrate several subjects and you could have not learned part of the info in that system yet if you are in a traditional curriculum

It's not unusual to start really low on your first few sets. After I finished 2nd year I started off scoring in the low 60's and over a few weeks brought it up to the high 80's. You just have to get used to the questions and go over the material again and again.

Best of luck.

30 q's is not a representative sample. sometimes, you get 30 "WTF?!?" questions in one block, and your %age drops.

I don't know what's good or not, but I took a 25 question test yesterday and a 50 question test today (all disciplines, all organ systems, random timed), and I got 43/75 = 57%. After reading this thread, I'm very encouraged!

Should we be starting qbank so soon??? I heard it's better to do them later, is that true?

yea i think it's probably better to wait, but i'm just going through questions so i get used to "integrating" stuff.. my school has old school curriculum so its hard for me to integrate micro with pathology and with derm and physiology...

i'm not expecting much, just spending about 45 minutes a day doing some questions hoping that it will do me some good... any advice on this peeps?

I figured I would start trucking through First Aid and my High yeild books over the weekends and on breaks... just to get my brain thinking like boards.. .

is this stupid?

It's not stupid, it's just important to remember that keeping up with classes IS studying for boards. Listening to Goljan Path might be a nice compromise, especially since you can throw it on the iPod and do it while you work out.

FYI:
Initial qbank random question percentage = 40-50%
Actual step1 score = 250+

So don't freak out if you suck at qbank, if you were rocking 70% right off the bat I would probably tell you you need to get out more.

Best of luck.

I heart you right now 😍

okay, you're officially my hero... 🙂

Thanks for the advice...i have the iPOD going on.. next thing is to join that gym I've been eyeing!

I tend to take breaks from course studying by reading First Aid since it tends to hurt my brain less or just flipping through qbank questions

Maybe I can keep you in mind for some advice later?

Absolutely. Best of luck.

The advice being offered is sound. My first pass through Q-bank yielded about 56% correct, and I did just fine on the USMLE Step I.

You guys are starting plenty early compared to most medical students. Be sure to keep up with you classes, and alternate First Aid (or whatever book you wish) with Q-bank to break up the monotony of studying for hours in a single medium.

You'll be fine. Good luck.
