What is the average Interview Invite : schools applied ratio for an applicant who is applying to reasonable target schools and is not applying anywhere unrealistically?

My guess is 1:4 ?

No idea what the average is but I was at ~1:3 (10II:30completed). It's gonna be dependent on a bunch of factors though.

For example 4 of my IIs were from Florida schools which show pretty strong IS preference. Had I been somewhere like Cali I wouldn't have had such a luxury

There is none. If you're an average applicant, you need to apply broadly because you have absolutely no idea which schools are going to take interest. Someone applying with stats at the matriculant medians to 20+ schools could maybe expect anywhere between 0 and 10 interviews. Again, very dependent on the strength of your other features and your school list.

As mentioned above, a very strong applicant will likely have a higher ratio but that also depends on what schools they apply to.

That average would be completely meaningless. there are too many variables to say that if you apply to four schools you should get one invite.

A much better question to ask is: "what are the odds of me getting an II at XSOM?"

The answer can be found in MSAR.

There's not really an average ratio for interview invites to schools applied to. There are so many variables to consider in determining who gets an interview that even students with nearly identical applications may not get interview invites at the same schools. I know a set of twins with quite similar applications that got interview invites from different schools.

Determining target schools based on GPA/MCAT percentiles is a good start, but there's no guarantee you would get interviews from schools where you're closer to the 90th percentile stats and you may get interviews from schools where you're closer to the 10th percentile of stats.

Depends on a variety of factors. I'm sure if I had more schools whose median stats were below mine, I'd have had more IIs.

FWIW: 19 applied, 7 II. I want to say on average @The Knife & Gun Club's 1:3 ratio is closest.

Yep I hear (who knows if its accurate) that the ratio for a well-crafted average applicant is 1:3:3 accept:II:apply so 1:9 for accept:apply

California resident here. I submitted 24 applications and received 4 II.

My ratio was low partly because I applied to some schools that I did not fit the mission for or were too much of a reach. The schools I received interviews at were the best fit for me given stats and institutional missions.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a well crafted list of schools! I'm wishing I had some of that application money in my pocket...

Ratio is usually between 0 and 1. OP I'd stop worrying about these trivial things. There's a chance you could get a good amount of interviews, and there's a very realistic chance you could get none. Just check out the no II thread.

I applied to 20 (though 7 were reaches since my state school has strong IS bias). Interviewed at 7, accepted 1, waitlisted at 6. According to the lore I should have had 2 acceptances, but I didn't. My LizzyM was 74, so not bad. I am a little too cookie cutter. If I could do it again, I would have dropped the reaches.

This depends entirely on the applicant and there is a wide range. I've seen applicants get invited to 90%+ of their applied schools. Likewise I've also seen people with 0%.

A strong applicant with a good list is going to get invites to almost all schools.
You obviously know better than I do, but is this the case at some of the most competitive places? I go to a pretty selective school and many of us didn't get interest from other top programs but obviously did others. These schools are not the same places, for what that's worth. We go to X, I got shut out by Y and Z but interviewed at A and B. But a friend had the opposite happen. Obviously there are those who get interest from most of the top places though.

Applied to 28 interviewed at 3 accepted at 1. :s

I applied to 23, interviews at 9 (attended 8), accepted to 5, waitlisted at 3.

Everyone's numbers will vary depending on schools they apply to. Don't think about it too much. I did and it got me nowhere. Once the apps are in or interviews are done close your eyes to the process.

Varies according to the strength of your application and the quality of the schools you're applying to. For an average applicant, I think an estimate of 1:3 for interviews to schools applied to and 1:3 for acceptances to interviews isn't unreasonable. Again, though, it is essentially impossible to come up with a ratio that applies to most people.

Applied to 9 schools, received interviews at all 9, interviewed at 8, accepted to 5.

However, I'm a Texan who only applied to Texas schools.

Applied to 22, 4 II, 1 acceptance and 3 waitlists.
That 1:3 ratio is making me feel like an underachiever! I should have gotten 7 IIs, apparently.
