Anyone know how long it takes to get USMLE step 2 scores back. I need to time this just right to maximize my study time yet get scores in for residency application. Thanks for the help!

From posts I've seen here, it takes about 4 weeks. But just to clarify, did you want your scores out in time for screening for interviews in which case I think the deadline in around Sept 1, or did you want them in time for your actual interviews Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb? I too have been debating when the best time to take CK...

Hi there,
I took USMLE Step II in August of my third year. I took a couple of weeks and studied for the test. Since Internal Medicine was my last rotation for third year, I didn't need to do too much review. My scores were back in plenty of time because every competitive residency program made a comment about how great is was that I had already taken Step II. The other nice thing was that by January, there was nothing between me and graduation except to show up. I just waited around for the Match and cruised the rest of fourth year. This was a good thing because PGY-1 year was really hectic. Take Step II as early as you can and as soon as you are prepared for it. It's a huge pain to put this off and have to sandwich this in with the stress of ERAS and interviews.

Thanks for the replies everyone! 😍 Oh, and JKP, I wanted them to be in in time for the "screening for interviews" period. So, as of now I'm planning on taking it sometime toward the end of August... so my scores should be there when they're deciding to interview... and then I'm free and clear for the rest of 4th year just like njbmd explained! God, I hope the next few months pass quickly!

Again, thanks for the advice!
