Anyone who had interview on the 20th or 27th hear anything back from Umich? Anything????? Or did anyone call them within the last couple days to find out what is going on?

Because I can't get any sort of hint out of the office of admissions, I'm relegated to forming my own theory about their time table for when we might hear back. I interviewed on Jan. 20th. As far as I can tell, this was the first date of interviews for 2006. I believe their last batch of acceptances went out in early to mid-January. There were two other interview dates: Jan. 27th, and Feb. 10th. I know of several people who were accepted in early january who have until the end of this week to accept or deny their acceptance. My theory is that the adcom was waiting until the last of the interviews were over (Feb. 10th) and now they are waiting to see who will accept their acceptance and who will give up their spot. Now I believe that that means they will be meeting this week and/or next week to decide on their next batch of acceptances, given that they will interview no more. This puts us about 2 - infinity weeks away from hearing their decision. Just like you, i'm sure, i check my mailbox everyday and sift through the mail in vain looking for that gd acceptance or rejection letter. Waiting is something I've grown accustomed to by now though, and so it continues....

Your theory sounds convincing... but don't they leave a significant amount of seats (about 1/2 or less) open for the interviewees that have been interviewed since the beg. of the new year? I mean they split up their interviews in half for before the new year and for after the new year. I don't think that the people who were interviewed before necessarly have better stats. Part of it has to do with the fact that they sent in their apps really early or maybe their scores really were off the charts.

By the way I had asked them when I called to confirm my interview the chances of getting in with a Jan. or Feb. interview and the woman who was talking to me said 50/50. so, what I'm saying is why should our status depend so much on people giving up their seats?

...Waiting really is painful....

I interviewed there on Jan. 20th as well. My guess is that they need to figure out how many seats they will still have available after this deadline passes. From that number, they can then send out the appropriate number of acceptances without being in danger of over filling their class. Of course, this is just my spin on it and I'm really, by no means qualified to answer this question. On a more positive note though, my roomate just went to the dentist. They got to talking about school and the subject of me applying to UofM came up. I guess this guy graduated from there. Anyway, he told my roomate that all of his friends were accepted in early Dec. but he didn't get his until late late Feb. So, he said I'm still sitting OK in the grand scheme of things. My uncle didn't get his acceptance till Feb. either, so don't freat, we just gotta keep waiting a little longer......easier said than done, I know. Hopefully, in a few weeks time we can start a "Hail to the Victors" thread. 🙂 Till then, best of luck. -peace

Good luck guys!! and thanks for your replies.

Does anybody have anything else to add?

Do dental schools look negatively on our application if we call to check up on our status a few times??

I actually talked to pattie katcher (the super nice lady) and she told me that she'd have umich call me with a decision two mondays ago. That never happened. I just dont think that they are meeting frequently to make decisions and we have to wait because of it. I also interviewed on the 20th.
