What are your career goals if medical school doesn't work out? Mine is to become a clinical lab science. Alternatively, I would love to study towards a PhD in microbiology, but I don't have any research experience so I don't think that's going to happen. I've also thought about going back to school to become a music teacher.

Well, I have an M.A. in English and almost have two credentials completed to teach high school, but I realized that medicine is all I want to do. I would have to get 4 MCAT scores -21 to even consider becoming a teacher and give up THE DREAM.

I have a "delayed" plan, which ivolves getting my paramedic license and retaking a couple courses to reapply

but in the case of absolutely not going to medical school....

1) Become a foreign service officer (FSO)
2)Become a paid firefighter and get a Masters degree, move into/retire in legislation of some kind
3) Reconsider some job offers/opportunities for police work.

As of lately, I've been freaking about my future and my mediocre grades (3.3cgpa/3.4sgpa). I know they aren't bad but I just know medical school isn't a guarentee. But my brother got into a very prestigious graduate school for another field with a cumulative gpa lower than me (went to a top 40 undergrad which was #2 at the time for his specific degree). He always tells me never give up. He said even if it doesn't work out, there are always other options. The man keeps me motivated all the time👍

Honestly as long as you apply early and have decent letters, Mcat score. You probably will make it without issue.

If I couldn't I'd spend a year working at NIH in a Biological Psychology lab and then apply to PhD programs in Clinical Psychology and do imaging/ physiology/ perception & Cognition on patients with mental illness.

Admittedly I kinda still intent to do something of the sort after medical school though. Maybe not as a full time, but as a medical officer or etc.

Alot will depend on my MCAT come spring. If I manage high 20s, Say 29 or even 30, I should be able to get in somewhere. If the Mcat falls through, My backup plan after applying next year and not getting in would be to retake intro Bio and Physics 1, the two lowest science grades I got and get As in them. This would bump my Science GPA by almost .3. Grade replacement is a sexy thing.

The older I get, the more I realize that I want to become a physician more than any other profession, and I will take the required and most sensible route to get there. In my case, that would be taking a year to retake the classes and aiming for DO school. Right now, I'm not competative for MD schools, but in the running for DO, just need a good MCAT score.

👍. Honestly a career path that always fascinated me was intellectual/patent law. And I've heard a 3.5 gpa with a 165+ LSAT could land you into a solid law school. It's an idea I always fiddled with when I was contemplating pre med in freshman year.

Yeah, it is. 😎. The one thing though about law school is you have to graduate like in the top 20% of your class at a tier 1/t14 school to get six figure salary offers for private sector. But med school is one of those things as long as you do decently well, you should be able to place into a residency. More stability in medicine both both degrees take a lot of effort and work to achieve! Law I would say is lucrative but medicine is arguably as lucrative but a safer bet if you are able to get through the education requirements (Med school, residencies, fellowships, etc).

I would go to the Caribbean only if it was the well known ones (SGU, Ross). Otherwise, I think i would pursue podiatry. I don't think I would enjoy a career outside of healthcare. My older brother is in finance but when I took business courses in high school, it was nap time 😛

That was my plan as well, international studies major and arabic language courses through college fit pretty well, I'm glad I found medicine instead though.

I think I'd likely go into a Neuroscience PhD focusing on Pain. I thought about podiatry, but I don't have the stomach to spend my days cutting nails or treating wounds. It was the great bulk of the work I saw podiatrists do when I shadowed.

I would become a NYPD cop then move up in the ranks. I'll probably also consider getting a masters in paleontology and working for an oil company. But agin I would probably have to do horrible on the MCAT multiple times in order to consider these other options. By horrible I mean score constantly in the teens. With my GPA I can probably gain admissions to one of the newer D.O schools with just a 22 - 23. But I'm aiming for NYCOM so my MCAT has to be as close to a 28 as possible. 'm sure I'll be fine with at least a 25 providing that I apply early.

They still need paleontologists. This happens at almost every major construction site. Someone has to make sure that it isn't something that's in the interest of the public to keep (e.g. indian burial site).
