I just wanted to know when everyone who is participating in the Texas Match plans on checking the internet for their results...

Texas match = New year's Eve revisited for Texans.

I'm rooting for ya'all.

Ill be using my tabbed browser to go between SDN and the match page close to midnight

One thing I am worried about is that if you do not match, it does NOT say "NOT MATCHED" on the results line. Instead, it leaves it blank. As long as I don't see anything there, I will keep hitting refresh and checking. It would be much easier on my nerves if I knew it would say something whether you match or not. That way, I won't sit there wondering if my result has been uploaded yet...I can move on past the denial phase...

What happens if you don't match? Is there a scramble for unmatched spots? Is there a waiting list?

Do you have to go to the school you are matched for?

IF you don't match the "school matched" field is blank. It's then up to the school(s) to determine whether you're on their match list.

And no, there's not much waitlist movement in Texas, excepting (I'm told) UT Southwestern.

According to TMDSAS, you match at the highest school you ranked that matches you in return. Then, your application at lower schools on your rankings is automatically withdrawn. I do not believe you will really ever know if you would have gotten into them. If you get your number one rank, then you are done. Otherwise, you application remains on the higher schools on your list, and it is up to them to inform you whether you are an alternate or not. Failure to match leaves your application in every school with it up to them to contact you...

The official explanation:

Well, you don't have to. 😉 You could choose to attend an out of state school, or Baylor, or decide you don't really want to go to med school, etc. But yeah, if you wanna go to school in TX other than Baylor, then you gotta abide by the match result.

BTW, there's a guy in the next lab who decided after a year of med school in TX that he really didn't want to be a doctor at all. Just dropped out. Whoa.

I'm going to be at a party at my friend's apartment on Saturday night... what do you guys suggest I do:

A. borrow friend's computer to check the results after midnight during the party (which could result in even greater cause for more celebration or put a really huge damper on the party)

B. stay home until i've checked the results and calmed down, then go to the party

C. just party all night and then check the results when i get back like at 2 AM (i don't think i could manage this).

What do you think? 🙂

Check at your friend's or before you go...you know you aren't going to wait until 2 am! I would suggest checking at your friends...

Do you know why that is? Would it be because applicants who match to UTSW as their first choice may be more likely to have been accepted to Baylor (or some other place) and end up forgoing their TX match choice?

And why isn't there much waitlist movement for the other TX schools... I guess it's probably because of the way the match is done with the ranking and all...

That's why I'm going to wait until you people start posting that the match is up before I check mine. 😀

So to answer your question: about 12:05am.

ok, ok i've been trying to tell myself i won't obsess about this, but what the hell - i'll be checking at 12:06 a.m. on feb 1st (why 12:06? b/c 1+2+6 adds up to my lucky number, 9 😎 )

i told you, this site is doing weird things to me...

to the 3 people who are waiting til sunday morning:

HOW THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP KNOWING THAT YOU COULD FIND OUT IN 30 SECONDS WHERE YOU WILL SPEND THE NEXT 4 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE, ESPECIALLY AFTER WAITING TO LONG FOR THE STUPID MATCH PROCESS TO BE OVER?!?!?!?~*

I love your use of the bug-eyed smiley.

And I totally agree with the above sentiment. Word to your mother. 👍

I just really value my sleep. After working a full-time job and taking care of a toddler, I have learned the importance of sleep, especially when sleeping in on a weekend means waking up at 7:15 am - likely when many of you are just starting to hit the sack. Come about 4 pm Sunday, I'll be much happier having had the extra sleep. And no, I no longer even stay up for New Years.

Here is something else...have any of you all given out the website and your login information to anyone else? My parents wanted it and so did a few other relatives, though they all promised me that they won't check until I do. Hmm....it is kinda tough to volunteer my precious login # and pwd. Did anybody else cave in like I have? I am such a pansy sometimes...but hey, my parents did pay for my education...and application fees....and hotels....and...just about everything...

One of my aunts tried hard to get that information out of me. Lets just say I'd make a good secret agent. 😉 That information is still safe with me. I didn't want to risk getting rejected and her finding out before me.

they may have paid for everything but i worked my butt of for 4 years (even more considering high school, etc.), filled out those dadgum applications, went through the whole interview process, and have been anxiously awaiting to find out where i'm gonna end up for the next 4 years (and beyond).

i consider that ID and PW priveleged information

Lets just say, I will be starting around 11:50 and going between here and SDN to make sure a blank is a blank for everyone.

what the heck?! no way, dude! none of my relatives have ever even thought to ask for information that personal... i mean, don't they trust that you will tell them the results the next time you talk to them after you find out? i don't understand why they wouldn't just be satisfied with a phone call from you--why do they feel the need to actually log on and check for themselves? the only answer i can think of is that they don't trust you ... either that, or you don't have a cell phone and for some reason cannot possibly contact them for an extended period of time after saturday night. but still, that whole situation seems so whack to me.

i don't disagree that it's generous for our parents to pay for the whole app process, but how would giving them your password be "payment" for that?

it's not a really big deal, i'm just so perplexed by this situation!!

Ha ha ha...I really didn't expect that strong of a response... I originally gave it to my parents so they could double-check before January 15 to confirm that every schooled had been ranked according to how I wanted. And yes, I would not have given it to them without my absolute trust that they would wait for my call on February 1st. I know that they won't go behind my back. If I had thought that at all, I wouldn't have given it to them. Of course none of my friends know my information. They'll have to wait for me to put the result on my AIM away message....
