I'm starting my second year in school and I'm not sure when to start studying for the board exams, both COMLEX and USMLE STep I? I don't want to start now cause I know I won't remember anything with all the new info, but I sort of want to maximize class studying vs. studying for boards...when in your opinion is the best time to begin? Also, when did you begin studying for the boards and scoring high...I want to do well, not just pass it.
Thanks.

I think trying to read all of Robbins might be a little over ambitious...perhaps you can follow along as you cover material in class....

I started my step studying as soon as second year began. I never did any "extracurricular" studying or anything like that; I simply studied my second year material as I got to it, and then made sure to review it periodically so I wouldn't forget it. Seriously, if you can just retain the information for more than just a week after a course exam, you can start building on it, and all sorts of things will begin to come together and take shape. I loved my second year of med school, and I barely studied that much at all... I just kept reflecting on stuff I had already learned to keep it current. It also helped cut down on my post-secondyear step 1 study schedule.

year 1 day 1... if you think about it.

Really, as we went through each system, I looked at the physio/anatomy (this obviously might be harder if you do not have systems courses). Then about 4-5 weeks before boards, I started overall total review. Wasn't too bad.

hope this helps...
