I'm curious to know--at what point in the application process do the admissions committees read your personal statement from the primary application? I know some schools don't screen before they send secondaries, so it would seem like those schools wouldn't read your personal statement until later in the process, i.e. when they're considering inviting you for an interview.

What makes you think schools read your PS anyway? If they DO, it would probably be to break a deadlock over whether or not to grant an interview...some applicants can put NOTHING down for a PS and still get interviewed, I would imagine...others (like me) needed that little extra boost 🙂

I can't believe that people put nothing down and still get interviews. Well, maybe they get interviews, but I'm sure that the adcom when it comes to deciding who the accept must go through the letters and our essays.

Are interviews just based on numbers?????

You would be surprised...all texas medical schools use numerical formulas to grant interviews. The cutoff involves something to the effect of "GPA times MCAT of 100 or more" or something like that. DO schools for the most part probably dont do this, but you can never be sure.
