Hello people!

I am in a 4 year program. I wanted to know when can I apply for admission to med school if I want to join after finishing my degree. Do I apply after 3rd year? so i can get in the next year. When can I write the MCAT's? is it the april or august of the year that I will apply?

Welcome!
You can take the MCAT either the April or August of the year you apply, depending on which test you're better prepared for. There is always debate about which test gives you the advantage for submitting applications, but in my mind, whichever you're prepared for is best. You apply the summer before your senior year in college. If you need more info, go to www.aamc.org. Oh, and don't frequent this forum, it'll make you psycho 😉 I've only been here a month, and look what's happened to me ::twitch:: hehe

so you can apply in summer before your senior year and you can still take the test in august...right..?

Yep. That's what I did. I also took the test this April, didn't do as well as I wanted, so I took it in August. I applied this summer. Good luck!

Probably better to plan on taking the MCAT in April so that you are able to re-take in Aug if you don't do as well as you'd like. You certainly can take it for the first time in Aug, but if you want to re-take it will set you a year behind.

Also, if you take the Aug MCAT, you need to be sure you have your AMCAS app done, transcripts sent, etc way before you get the MCAT score back. If you start the process in Oct, your chances of getting in drop...not impossible, but definitely making it unnecesarily harder for yourself.

so if u take in april and u take it again in august. do you get to pick which one to send or you have to send in the results of the august test. For example, u take it in april and you did okay but u want to improve ur score and take it again in august but you did worse than april's test. Can u choose not to send in the august one or do you have to send in the test results of both april and august. Also, if you do send both scores in, which one do they look at.

I believe they get scores if you choose to score release when you register for the test. So if you did worse in August on the second time (not likely if you studied well), then you really can't do anything about it, because the choice to score release is when you register, not after you know the score.

I believe if they have April MCAT scores and they see that you're taking the test in August (which you indicate on your AMCAS), they will wait on evaluating your application until they get the August scores.
