When do we have to finish our prereqs?

depends on the school..i believe temple wants you to have it done by the time you apply, BU wants them done by the time you matriculate..

but I'd say the majority of schools just want them done by the time you matriculate

And Penn State wants them done by winter, so it runs pretty much the whole gamut. Also, as vman pointed out, they obviously all want you to have them done by the time you matriculate, or they wouldn't be prereqs

Lol very true...does anyone know where I can find a list of schools that want them done by the time we apply?

By the time we apply? By the time we graduate? By the time we matriculate? Does anyone know?

Ideally by the time you take the MCAT, or at least concurrent with it.

For the vast majority of med schools, by the time you matriculate is the standard. There are a couple of exceptions who require it earlier, but not many.

But consider if you are the typical trad applicant, applying after junior year - many schools want to see more of your grades, especially if you have any GPA issues during your first 3 years, or if you have more pre reqs and BCPM classes to take that could affect their evaluation of you...

IMO, many "trad" applicants would be far better off applying after their senior year with a complete GPA record, using the "glide year" to get a job, add to ECs, etc. Lots of people applying after junior year compound their problem by taking mid to late summer MCATs, making their apps late...apply early the summer after senior year with all your ducks in a row.

Your question begs a bigger question: when you apply, it is with an MCAT score, so how many pre reqs have you not taken prior to the MCAT and prior to applying?

I sent primaries to well over 20 schools, and all of them are "by matriculation"...I only recall noting a couple that want to see a mid year grade report (senior year), but it was a non-issue for me...I don't recall any that require all pre reqs be done prior to submitting the app, and I at one time considered 60 or so schools.

Thanks so much flip & others! Yeah, I was just wondering whether I had to squeeze that last bio lab into my junior year or if I could push back to senior year. I've got all the non-labs covered 🙂

And apparently neither Temple nor Penn State actually care too much to enforce this rule because, way back when, I interviewed at both not having completed one of my pre-requisites.

How else would you get them completed :bang:Hence the word PRErequisite (that means "before" just f.y.i.)
