Hi,

I'm a little confused about the process.

I indicate at ALL that I am considering MD PhD in secondaries... Correct?

Can we apply to a school as either MD or MD/PhD? In which case, who makes the descision, me or the school? I mean, do they are offer both admissions (if they like me for both), or do they just offer MD-PhD?

Are there schools that require us to apply as only MD or MD-PhD, not both? Are these a siginificant number of schools.

Sorry if this is answered in the FAQs, neuronix, I did look through it, but I still don't understand.

Thanks,
Sonya

In general, you have to decide whether you are applying to a school MD or MD/PhD in your secondary. Actually, you should note it one way or the other on your primary, but what's going to really count is whether you fill and return the MD/PhD portion (supplement at most schools) of the secondary.

In other words, you cannot simuntaneously apply to both MD and MD/PhD at a single school (applying to MD/PhD at some and MD at other schools is very common, though). Having said that, keep in mind two things: if you only apply MD, that's probably it at a given school (short of changing your mind later and trying to get your MD/PhD application in). Once the decision has been made (even about the interview), there's no going back.
If you apply MD/PhD, on the other hand, the situation is a bit more complex, and it depends on individual schools. You might want to check with the schools and do a search here, since there were a few threads on this before. Anyway, the thing is most schools will consider you for MD only if they don't accept you for MD/PhD, at least on paper. Whether you are at a serious disadvantage as compared to those that applied MD only to begin with remains unclear, and it probably varies from school to school. There are other schools that tell you right away that they do not consider those rejected from MD/PhD for MD only.
Some schools will actually ask you on their MD/PhD secondaries whether or not you want to be considered for MD only if you are rejected MD/PhD.

I think that's it, in short, but I have to add a disclamer: I haven't been in any of the above situations, so I'm only telling you what I've gathered. Others, please feel free to add or correct me.

Your response sounds great surge. 🙂 I didn't really address this in the FAQ. I need to clean it up a bit more anyways. I think the answer be in jot's guide somewhere, but that's ok. I won't get mad at ya 😀
