When do you get your $$ from financial aid? Say, I'm going to use some of the $$ to put a deposit down on rent and to buy a car. Will I have it before I start med school?

Most likely not. Probably depends on your school. Mine took a while to process loan funds so we usually had to get a deferment when tuition was due until they got around to putting it in the account, then you had to wait in long lines to pick up your check from the credit union.

Also, be careful about buying that car. Make sure you can afford to do it with the loans they give you based on their cost of attendance, without having to ask for an increase in your need. I've read here many times that loans cannot be used to buy a car - so if you spend it on the car and then can't pay your rent or tuition later you'll be in big trouble getting more loans.
