I'm not extremely familiar with the whole loan process and I was wondering when do you actually get your loan money? Are you able to get the loan money early in the Summer before you start Dental School. If not, what do you do the Summer before you start?... I ask this because I have a family and most likely would not be able to provide for them just with money from a summer job (plus moving into a new apartment and all the expenses that come with it). My family and I basically live off of government grants right now, and we don't get this money until the beginning of every semester (and the money is gone at the end of the semester). Thanks for your help!

The loan (financial aid) money gets sent to the school. Any outstanding balance is paid off using the loan award and the remainder is given to you. In most cases, the extra loan money is given to you after classes start. You may want to look at private loans from banks if you need the money before classes start.

Thanks.
I was wondering if you get a check sent directly to you with extra loan money (after classes start) AND can I (theoretically) use that for whatever I want or just for school/housing expences. ???

Thanks in advance.

We got our money a few days after school started, and it's basically a refund check for the amount left over after your loans pay for your tuition and fees. We picked it up in person from the bursar and then later they installed a direct deposit program. So check how your school does it. You can use it for whatever you want, but remember, it's not lottery money 😛

or do what i going to do: head over to the FA office n ask them about the whole process. cuz i am very confuse about it 2, for undergrad i didn't take out anything so this is very new to me
