When do you take step 2?

Was just curious about when you should take step 2? If you scored high on step 1 should u hold off? I have heard mixed opinions on this. Thanks for any help!

Some programs require Step 2 scores before even interviewing you. If you're not applying to one of those programs, you'll probably be ok taking it later if you have a strong step 1. In fact, the risk of taking Step 2 early hurting you may exceed the potential benefit, which is probably minimal but hopefully more likely. Though you'll forget things you learned 3rd year and have to relearn it.

If you take it after ?Septemberish?, you don't have to automatically give your score to programs.
