hey all,

When do you all think is the absolute last day to take the DAT and finish the application on the web to insure the admission notice on December 1st?

I am applying this June for 2008 admission and I havent taken the DAT yet.
I am planning to take the DAT in late August but many people are saying that will be way too late if I want to get admission notifications on December 1st.
so, could anyone please let me know when is the last day to fill out the application and take the DAT?
any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Keep in mind that getting the acceptance on December 1st isn't always absolutely necessary. Some do tend to fill up right away, but a lot also continue interviewing and accepting well into March ...

I met this guy at my NYU interview who didnt submit his things until late september. He ended up getting a decent number of acceptances on Dec. 1... I mean, he also had an AA of 25 or 26, but that's not really the case

I took my DAT July 24th, submitted my AADSAS application on August 10th, which was then printed and sent to 6 schools on August 31st. Letters of Rec were finished by September 10th and I recieved 3 interviews in October/November. Two schools sent me acceptance letters on December 1st and the other said I should hear by late January.

That was my timeline for the entire application process, but I would suggest applying online, sending the information in by May or June, and taking the DAT no later than July. (the earlier the better). I spoke to a gentleman that worked for admissions at Michigan one time and he said to us "turn in your application the day it comes out, or else other people are ahead of you". Realistically, I wouldnt let people like that scare you, but being earlier is definitely an advantage. Also, you might want to allow 90 days to retake the DAT incase you have a bad day your first time.

Probably a stupid question, but I thought you had to send in your DAT scores with your application?

You stole the words from my mouth.

Dental school was a huge goal for me. I wanted to do everything I could to get an edge. That included taking the DAT in June. (there was nothing I could do about not taking ochem 2) All in all, if your app is stellar, it doesn't matter, if your app looks like everyone else's, it will be stressful.

In response to my what i said earlier, allow me to clarify. You can apply without taking your DAT. Once your scores are sent to the schools (which takes only about 2 weeks) your application is then complete. If you take the DAT, and THEN send in your application, the application takes several weeks (4-6) to be processed, and then it takes time for the individual schools to process your stuff. I wish i had sent mine in earlier to save a few extra weeks. Also, things like the personal statement and letters of recommendation take time, and getting it all out of the way can make things easier.
