When does PharmCAS open for the 2011-2012 cycle?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
PharmCAS should open around the same time this year. First week of June sounds right. July is pretty late to open for PharmCAS. You might be thinking of secondaries but even that is dependent on each school.

First week of June is when PharmCAS usually opens for the new cycle. I would suggest that you get everything in order before then. It will be less stressful than waiting until August to start on the app because the whole process can be tedious.😉

if pharmcas opens first week of June, when's a good time to ask for LOR's? Do we need to give our writers our pharmcas ID when we ask them?
Also, did you guys give your writers a deadline? (I'd like them to submit it in by August and all...)

thanks 🙂

I would suggest that you ask them now. No time like the present. At least they won't need to feel rushed to meet a deadline in the next week or so. I asked my LORs back in May last year and I did not have the PharmCAS ID. I just asked them to do it for me and I would provide them with the other necessary info for submitting it once available. Worked out fine for me.

My application was submitted the end of June and all required docs were submitted early July. It would be in your best interest to remind your LORs occasionally to have it done for you. However, you don't want to be a pest because ultimately they are doing you a favor and not the other way around. Plus, you want good recommendations, not bad ones.😉

Quick question, so how do we have them start the letters early? is the online question form they have the same thing they get when they fill out the real letters of reference?

http://www.pharmcas.org/applicants/evalquestions.htm

so if we wanted someone to start early, would we be able to show this to a writer and basically have them just answer the questions as shown on like a word processor, and just copy and paste them into the forms later?

I think it's the same one that PharmCAS will send out. When I said to ask them early, I mean to give them all your info so that they can get started on it. They can type one up for you in the mean time and when they get the email or paper form from PharmCAS, they can fill out the questionnaire and attach the typed LOR to it (if done the paper route) or to attach it electronically and send it to PharmCAS via email. Hope that's much clearer for you.
