When exactly IS applying TOO late?

Does anyone know someone who applied, lets say August, and submitted, and gotten accepted due to (high DAT or connection or good transcript, etc)?

I don't know when my friend submitted his apps but..
He took the DAT at the end of December and applied to NYU and got in two years ago. He had near 4.0 GPA in his undergrad computer engineering and 4.0 in his masters program he finished under a year from Georgia Tech. He also worked for Samsung for a couple of years. Most importantly he scored 24 across in his DAT.

Ya, I wouldn't say august is too late, but it also isn't the earliest you can apply. Its too difficult to predict what your chances are since there are so many variables! 🙂

It depends on the deadlines for the schools you are applying to. The earlier the better. I submitted my application late last November... It wasn't complete until first week of January (I was missing some transcripts). I interviewed with Boston schools (two of the total 7 I applied to) in February and March, and I'll be attending one of them this fall.

deadlines are usually in March...so THAT is too late. The simple rule is: The earlier the better.

Yes this is true. That's why "late" is so relative - it really depends on your scores. However, no matter what your scores are, it always helps to apply earlier.

I would say anytime after June 1st is way too late!! you'll have no chance of getting in after that point

when someone talks about what date they applied, does that mean the time you submitted your application? or the time your application was complete? i submitted my application in sep but my application wasnt complete until late nov (stupid addsas).

go ahead and apply. I submitted my application last year like at the end of november i think (yes it was stupid). I applied to the 5 california schools, got an interview at USC in april and got in in May, so it isnt a smart thing to do if you dont like taking risks but it can work. I had a 3.9 GPA 3.5 SGPA and only an 18 on the DAT.

Apply as early as you can to get the best DAT score you can. I submitted my application in the first week of October. it was complete at that point--I had all my transcripts in and official DAT scores, LORs, etc. I KNEW October was on the very late side, but I had to wait that long since I didn't have time to study for the DAT before that due to personal circumstances. For me, it was worth it to wait until I felt ready to take the DAT because I ended up very happy with my score. My experience was that I was invited to interview at 7 of the 8 schools to which I applied, all at different times. I chose only to interview at four of them and I was accepted to all four schools. However, the MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR disadvantage of applying late is that you have a significantly smaller chance of hearing back from all of the schools in the same time frame. This means you may have to shell out mega bucks to hold your place at a school you don't really like in order to see if something better comes along; repeat the cycle. However, this might happen regardless of when you submit if you are not a very strong candidate. I interviewed with some people in February who had submitted their apps in July, so go figure. All I can say is rolling admission sucks and we should all lobby to have it done away with.

I hate to beat a dead horse but ... the sooner you submit your application the sooner you don't have to worry about how late your application may be, how difficult it is to deal with AADSAS, how a LOR got lost in the AADSAS mail and hasn't been sent to schools. You can move on and worry about other, more stressful, parts of the application process.

Applying in August will really make it tougher than you think. Most schools have begun the process by then. Even students with great stats end up sweating it out for 6 months longer than the rest who applied in May/June and got accepted on dec first. In the end, both got accepted, but the earlier student gets more chances and options.
