I know this question has been asked and answered 1000 times, but when is an application considered late in the app cycle? August? September? If all my secondaries are in by mid-August, am I still considered early, or is that about middle of the pack? If someone could divide the cycle up into Early/Middle/Late, that'd be great. Thanks

My best guess would be secondaries in by July is early, August is Middle, and September or later is late...just my opinion though.

As far as I can tell, there is no such thing as early for med school applications - only late and really late.

OP, I don't know if this addresses your concern, but according to U of Washington they reserve interview spots for people who COMPLETE their applications in September. Also, you can look at the latest MCAT date that they accept for the cycle. Time is less of an issue for outstanding premeds, so definitely take your time to come up with the best instead of rushing it.

I was talking about primaries here, BTW. I agree with the poster above me on the timeline for secondaries.
I concur with both of you.

For primaries, submit in June if you want to be considered "early," for whatever it's worth.

For secondaries, I would try to have the majority of them in by the end of July to be considered "early."

In essence, just stop worrying about an arbitrary time period SDN and other experts make up and just get your application in as soon as possible, without compromising substance.

I have to say, SDN makes me feel like a slacker. Some people who got their secodaries at the same time as me already have them in while I'm still trying to figure out what to write without spewing too much BS.

On SDN I'm seriously behind and lazy, but compared to the people I know at my school who are applying, I'm the gunner. A couple of them still might not have their primary sent in yet. Yeesh

SDN always makes me feel so inadequate and slow lol

Hi GBU, so they reserve interview spots for people who complete their application BY september or during the month of september?

thanks. a link would be appreciated.

Hey Question for anybody who wants to answer..

I took the June 18th MCAT, i get my scores next tuesday so will they we automatically loaded onto AAMC on that date? If I'm ready to submit should i wait for my MCAT score to come in or just submit.

Also regarding secondaries, will the school inform you by email, mail, etc if they want you to complete their secondary app?

Thanks for all your help everyone and best of luck with your applicaitons!

Yes your scores will be automatically loaded onto AMCAS. You don't need to wait for the score to submit your primary, just submit and your MCAT will follow. Remember, it can take a month for AMCAS to verify your transcripts.

You'll get informed by email about the secondaries. Most schools don't screen, so it should be almost automatic.

No, i called them up and that's what the lady told me. I was asking her about whether U of Wash screens applicants before giving up secondaries, because I won't be getting my MCAT score back until late September. When I explained to her my situation, she paused and told me that it wouldn't be too late if I have AMCAS verified my primary and submit my secondary by the time I get my score back in September.
