When is O.K. to contact programs?

When is it o.K. to call programs and check on the status of our applications. There are 3-4 programs that I really want to find out about in order to make traveling cheaper and less of a hassle. Plus the wait is killing me. Is it too early??

You should contact the programs asap. You may be able to schedule interviews with some of them when you call. There is no harm in calling to check the status of your application. They may tell you that they don't have any plans to interview you. That may not be what you want to hear but you then would now be able to make travel plans.
