Hey guys, just a quick question. I'm currently applying to UCLA and USC school of dentistry. However, I completed my application really late (in mid december and one of my professors mailed in the letter of reference to AADSAS by the end of January). Yeah, I know this is really bad; thus, I was wondering if I still have a chance at anything because so far I haven't heard anything yet from these two schools. Also, do you guys know how long it would take for AADSAS to forward my late letter of reference alone. Please answer me, thanks.

I turned in my application in August, and I received interview invitations from UCSF and USC in November and December respectively, and I just had my UCLA interview on Monday. I'm really sorry, but the chances of you receiving an interview invitation from either UCLA or USC is very slim. Be prepared to apply again as soon as May/June rolls around. Good luck with everything.

depending on your stats, I think that you still have quite a good chance at USC. A lot of people may give up USC if they get into a cheaper school. I'm withdrawing from USC as soon as UCLA cashes my deposit.

didn't you fill out the form and pay the deposit online?

Yeah, you're right. I was waiting for my official letter of acceptance to come when I wrote this. Apparently you pay the deposit online.

I dunno if this is a rumor or anything but I heard that UCLA interviews until the end of March and maybe early April for alternates.

when did you get your interview letter for UCLA?

I interviewed on March 6th and it wasn't a letter, it was an e-mail. I received the e-mail on February the 24th, confirmed the interview appointment, and bought plane tickets right away.

The turn around time was quick so I think people sitll definitely have a chance at USC interviews all the way until May doens't it?

UCLA is too late. Mid-December? Cmon. I mailed my apps in late October and I'm flipping out.

yes, USC interviews until May - I think Ryan said that

You should be hearing from Noemi soon...

Good luck!

You're right. I had an interview at USC last Friday. The interviewer of my group told us that they've been interviewed about 270 applicants so far and what they planned is to interview 500 applicants. As he said, the class is half full now. And they will hold interviews until May.

That is a lot of interviews!! I wonder why so many? Everyone's going elsewhere?????

I guess we wont have to wait to much longer. I called up Noemi and she told me that they had stopped reviewing peoples applications 🙁 and that all of whom they wanted to call upon for interview either have received the interview invite or will receive it shortly.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you talk to Noemi, today??

What did Noemi say to you??

USC factoid speculation:

1. I suspect their yield (% of offers that are accepted) is lower than some other schools.
2. Larger class size than most other schools, takes more interviews to fill.
3. For many applicants, not their first choice school.
4. Other schools with similar megabucks cost have better reputations.

She told me yesterday that the commitee had reviewed the applications and they has not invite me for an interview and she told me to wait a few weeks for the notification of my official status. However, when I emailed her back asking her if they have already rejected me and she told me the same thing today, "i.e. they has not invited me for an interview." but she did not indicate that I was rejected. Thus, I'm still confused, I think I have been rejected.

Just stay positive, you never know. I didn't think I would be interviewed at UCLA this late, but sure enough I was... 🙂

so, from your opinion, what does Neomi means? So they have finalized the interviewing list already (according to the post earlier up top from psychobruin) but they still have not rejected me? I'm in sort of a standby situations. Thanks for replying me and best of luck.

first of all, what are your stats and when was your application submitted--that would be a good start? If they reject you, you'll get the letter.

I just know that from my interview on March 6th, she told us that there are a few more weeks of interviews to go and I was told that there are spots still open, so there may be a chance. However just remeber that its already mid-march, getting late in the interviews here.

i'm still waiting for my chance at UCLA...

When did you get your interview letter/email, congrats on that! Would you mind sharing your stats and application submission date as well? 🙂

Let me think back here... Okay checking my email...She sent me the invite on Feb 23rd and gave me two interview dates March 2nd and the 6th. I opted for the 6th. So she gave a couple weeks notice. We had a total of 7 interviewees on the 6th (as far as how many on the 2nd, I don't know the number.)

Stats: 4.0/4.0 22/22/21. The others who interviewed with me I believe were just as, if not more competitive than me. I turned in my application like in June of last year. However, I took my DATs super late, in late September so my application was not complete until later. Feel free to ask me anything else. 😉

Hmm..so they're not interviewing that many people in each round. Wow, your stats are amazing!!! Where did you go for undergrad/grad?

So you've already been accepted to UCLA? Congrats! Lucky guy/gal

I would love to go to UCLA, or UCSF, but as neither one has called me for an interview... :meanie: I might end up going to NYU, or Pitt, still haven't decided. Did you by any chance interview at Pitt or NYU, if so what was your impression?

what does your screen name mean? I get the "elated" portion, I don't get the "YV?"

I have not been officially accepted there, still waiting for the call from Noemi, but I had a very good interview experience. I only applied to four schools, all here in California. I didn't go out of state, so I can't talk about those schools. From what I've seen thus far (UOP, UCSF and UCLA, all where I've interviewed), UCLA seems to fit my needs the best. 🙂
