When should I ask for LORs?

Hi all,

I'll be applying next cycle. When should I begin to ask for my LORs? Should I ask ASAP and just have them stashed with Interfolio? Wait it out a little longer?

Also, how necessary is it to submit a completed PS to my letter writers if/when they agree?

I would get it done ASAP.

I actually didn't find a PS too important until one of my professors wouldn't write the letter without it. They said that while they know you have the capabilities of being a doctor, adding the why touch to it should help a lot. In my opinion, it'll show that they base their recommendation both off a professional and personal level making it more convincing.
