So i know its a while away but ive never moved out of state. But i was just wondering when ppl typically start figuring out their living arrangements. I was thinking maybe 2 months b4 shcool starts but that was just a guess. Also, w/ finding a roomy do schools usually provide some kind of help with that.

If you're renting most places will not know if they have a vacancy until about one month prior. About 1-1.5 months before you move is a good time to go. As for roommates, check with your school to see if they have some sort of a roommate finder program of online forum where you can talk with your incoming class.

Yesterday.

 That's what I wanted to say!! But seriously I think it depends on what type of place you're trying to find. People typically only have to give 30 days notice for moving out so apartments and houses for rent may not be available to sign a lease until at most 2 months before the move in date. We're planning on renting a house and most of the ones I've looked at now have the date listed as available for immediate move in and the latest for the middle of March. I plan on really searching the end of May to the middle of June for August 1 move in.

If you are moving to the Lansing area I would seriously start yesterday. Rentals in this area are NUTS and start recruiting and make you sign leases in September the year before (example September 07 to move in Aug 08).

Just wanted to warn you to start now if you are coming to MSU!
