I am applying in the current cycle. I took the june MCAT, so my AMCAS wasn't complete until late August. I was completed at most schools throughout the month of september (and a few in early to mid october). I have gotten one interview invite (at my state school) and a couple post-secondary rejections, but no word other than that.

Thus it has been 2-3 months since I was completed and have received very little word back. At what point do you start worrying? It seems like there are a good number of schools that stop interviewing in Jan/Feb and those schools are already giving out interviews in those months.

On a related note, I'm thinking about sending an update letter out. What is the best way to do this? Attach it to an email? Snail mail?

Thanks

I've sent all my updates via e-mail. Seems to be fine.

I think everyone is frustrated that the schools are taking forever right now. They're probably back-logged with applications. Chin up and rock the interview you have! I'm sure you'll get more 🙂

You should start worrying next week

to be realistic, most of us are worried all the time during the process, even if we dont admit it.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but it seems like there's been a huge lack of medical school correspondence (other than post-interview results) for the past ~2 months. I would think it has to pick up at some point. Maybe after the holidays?

Seriously. What's up with this.

Yeah. All this silence is driving me crazy. My thoughts is that there should be some pre-holiday excitement in our inboxes. Now whether that is pre-Thanksgiving or pre-Christmas, I don't know...

Don't listen to people telling you to worry...what the hell good is that going to do. Work hard everyday in case you have to re-apply.

Why waste time freaking out dude...

You know, that's a very good advice. Retract my earlier post. Worrying's not gonna get you interviews or acceptances. Just plow on everyday and stay positive and hope for the best.👍

You shouldn't have ever stopped worrying.

That said, just remember that medical students are admitted to an average of one school.

Dude, stop trying to freak people out. I agree with UAA, what's the point of worrying? All you'll get for the trouble are ulcers and grey hair. Work hard, do your best, and things will fall into place.

That might be the case in Disney movies, not in the real world.

Pre-med advisors at Hopkins used to tell us to worry if you a) didn't have an interview before Christmas and/ or b) didn't have an acceptance by Valentine's Day.

That being said, what's worrying going to do for us, other than grow us an ulcer....... I'm working on mine right now!

Hang in there.

more info please. where did you apply, stats, ec's, etc...

worrying doesn't give ppl ulcers. Helicobacter pylori does. Just sayin.

Worrying = chronic stress = may have a link to increased susceptibility to H. pylori infection. But.. *cough*... I mean... yeaaaaa, nerd. 😉

Heading into the slow season for medical school interviews right now. Not much is going to happen for the rest of November. Some schools will schedule interviews during the first couple of weeks in December but after that comes the Christmas/New Year Holidays with next to nothing. At my two schools, we are shut down in terms of interviews until the first week in December when we have some scheduled and then none until the second week in January. We will interview through the first week in Feb and that's it. We will start sending out rejection letters and waitlist selections so that we are done the third week of Feb with rare exceptions.

This. Chronic activation of the HPA stress axis leads to decreased immune response = increased chance of infection. NEEEERRRRRRRRRRRD.
