i may not be able to take orgo 1 until summer, or i will be taking orgo 2 in the summer. should i take in august regardless or wait till next cycle? if i take orgo 2 in summer would august be good time to take dat? hope that makes sense...😕

I am probably getting ahead of myself but when is it a good time to take the DAT. I just browsed through the USC site and they require taking the DAT no later than March 1st of the year the application is to be filed.😱 Some schools seem to put a deadline to take the DAT.

Many schools don't consider your application complete if they're missing your DAT score. So, my advice is that you take one DAT in your junior year in spring, cuz if you need improvement you can study over the summer and retake the test in the early fall.

Good luck.

blankguy,

USC's website says the following "The Dental Admissions Test must be taken no later than March 1 of the year for which formal application is made" . WHich means that you can take it up to March first of the year that you are applying for, not the year in which you apply (because you apply the year before you want to matriculate).
My advice would be to take it your jr year, so that you have time to retake if necessary!

What about for post baccs?

I am a post bacc, and I took my first and only DAT in August. My RC is lower than I wanted (17) but, I am not taking it again.

It depends on how many years you're giving yourself to get in. If you're planning to attend next fall, then I would recommend you take the DAT asap. If you're submitting your application next fall, then take it before the summer, so you could re-take it if you need.

Good luck.

take the test when you are ready:laugh: or when you are angry, pissed off with studying, you know to the point where you hate it soo much you want to burn the material to keep you warm. peace out

I took the DAT this past summer after finishing Orgo 1 and 2. I would say it's a great time to take the DATs. You will barely have to study for the Orgo sections at all after just having the classes. Give yourself a few weeks before taking it after classes end to do any last minute studying you couldn't do b/c the summer session finals. Spend from May until Aug preparing in small amounts daily and it won't seem that overwhelming come August. Just some tips you may or may not find useful!

Good luck!

no, no! it is important to give yourself the best chance possible.....so.....take it in the summer after junior year.....beginning of july. this way you won't have classes to take up study time and if you happen to screw up on the test you'll have a chance to take it over (mind you, you must wait 3 months to retake) and still be early in the application process.....
