I am a dental student currently attending D3. If possible, I would like to apply for Endo residency in May this year.

One question I have is when I should take the INBDE exam.

Everyone has been told that applicants should complete their application as early as possible as soon as the pass opens. If so, I wonder if it is possible to update the other application documents first to PASS and then submit only the INBDE scores afterward, or if the INBDE scores must be submitted to complete the application and be subject to review.
I appreciate your help.

As soon as possible. Preferably May the latest.

Some schools last cycle mentioned they would not review my application until the INBDE results are in. By the time they mention this to you it’s already a bit late in the cycle. Some schools will still review and accept before INBDE results are in but safer to just get it done as soon as possible to increase your odds.

You have very little room for error applying straight out of school so best to do everything possible to have a complete application.

Now. Idk why you still havent taken the exam. Many D3s in my school took the board already. I am D4 and took it feb last year.

The school has to authorize you to take it.
My school didn't authorize us to take it till May earliest :/

Idk why school does that…maybe you can reach out to the dean and ask if they can authorize earlier so you can focus on application process/interview?

You can usually get approval for early testing, but they like to pad their numbers on 1st time pass rate, so they try to ensure everyone is ready to take it and pass on the first try before they allow clearance.
