So I'm a third semester sophomore currently taking orgo 1. I'll take orgo 2 and the orgo lab next sesester and this summer I plan on taking physics 1 and 2 at a local college back home. I also want to shadow a D.O, get a part time job and volunteer this summer as well but should i take the MCAT after the physics classes are done? Or should I wait until Jr year? I ask this because I'm a double major and so I have to take extra classes which might get in the way of the MCAT. So what should I do? The physics classes finish in late July btw.

I don't recommend taking physics away from your home institute unless it's a state school. Anyway you should take it after you finish all the prereqs and can dedicate around 2-4 months of study.

No I'm taking it at a CUNY to make room for my double major classes

I would suggest studying over your summer break. I took the test in between my sophomore and junior year. I spent probably 1-2 hours a day for 2 months and it worked for me.

Finish all of the pre-reqs first. Then take a diagnostic and depending how you score, proceed from there. I sat for the exam multiple times and wish I would of went with Kaplan from the beginning.

Good luck.

You're not a med student.

The only suggestion I have is don't take it until you're ready. Make sure you've taken all courses needed (cell bio, o chem, physics, etc), then take a few practice MCATs (after studying) to see if you like where you're at. Its better to wait until you're ready than to retake it multiple times. Good luck! 👍

Diagnostics tell you almost absolutely nothing. And Kaplan generally is the worst prep system on this planet, if you're going to spend money use it on a tutor or Princeton prep.

I scored a barely double digits on the diagnostic, it tells you nothing because you haven't studied or seen the material in years. I took all my pre-reqs freshman/sophomore and didn't start studying till senior.

I would recommend to take all your pre-reqs, do not waste your time with TPR or Kaplan classes, and just buy TBR and EK books, along with TPR or Kaplan's online material and go to work. Give your self 4-6 months and then take the MCAT. Also, do as many Full length AAMC MCAT's and computer passages and practices exams as you can get your hands on.

I scored higher on my diagnostic than my real test ( I personally think Kaplan made me worse). Albeit my Diagnostic was very high.

Wow! Never heard of anyone having the diagnostic higher then the actual.

I find his jumping the gun especially ironic given his school choice.

Kaplan wasted my time and taught me a whole bunch of counter productive thing. I lost a point off of my physics score based on the fact that I forgot more than I learned with them. I don't think I've ever been so displeased with an organization as I was with Kaplan.
Regardless, I'll retake it and actually study it the right way.

Never. Run for the hills and never look back.
